No ordinary pancake

I don't watch a whole lot of TV anymore. In fact, about all that I really find myself watching most days is the nightly news and the Food Network. Now, don't get me wrong, I love me some "What not to wear" (I keep thinking my friends will have mercy on me and nominate me for the show.....). I digress, anyway, as far as prime time sitcoms, I just don't have a huge interest.

That being said, one of my favorite shows on the Food Network is Triple D. And for those poor souls (read: people with a life) out there that don't watch TFN; the show is actually called Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. The host, Guy Fieri travels all over the country (although hardly in the southeast.......where's the love, Guy?) going to different places to sample the food and to get a tutorial on how each places "specialty" is cooked. I think the closest place he's been to around here is the Marietta Diner in Marietta, Ga. We've eaten there before and it's pretty good. But the other night, the show was a tour of New Jersey Diners (and if you click the link, you can see when you can actually watch it yourself). And on it, this one particular diner owner made "Cyclops Pancakes" which is a pancake with a fried egg in the middle. Now, to me, that doesn't sound too appetizing. But for those of you who don't know, I married "Mikey, the kid who'll eat anything."

Brad is the Farmer household's go-to guy for pancakes anyway (I can't flip the darn things). He makes them, I decorate them. Indeed, my friends, the perfect picture of teamwork. So tonight, he was making pancakes for supper and I suggested that he try his hand at the Cyclops variety. While he was working on the Cyclops-cake that would make even Guy himself proud, I was decorating the kid's pancakes. I thought you might like to see Brad's take on the Cyclops and then of course, I have to throw in at least one picture with a kid in it. Have I mentioned that we're boring? Just wanted to make sure I had that last point well covered. We're just a frenzy of excitement, our family.

How sad is it that I actually took the time to take a picture of my husband making a pancake? Oh, let's just not talk about it, shall we? Anyway, in case you're wondering (I know you're sitting on the edge of your seat) he liked it so well that he made another one. I didn't try it, and I don't plan too. The whole mixing food concept is blasphemy to me.

This is Bryce-man's pancake. It is upside down so you really can't tell about it. But, it has rediwhip eyebrows and smile with a strawberry nose and M&M eyes. Oh, the talent this stay at home mom possesses. By his face, he looks thrilled with it......and that's all that matters.

Hey, sounds pretty eventful to me! (What does that say for my life!) :)
The cyclops end-product actually looks pretty good! Though, I'm one of those 'don't let the food touch' kind of eaters... But, Pioneer Woman made a fried egg in a piece of toast not long ago and that looked good enough to try!
I like Guy, too. I just wish that he'd stop w/ the shades-on-the-back-of-the-head thing already. Geesh. (Maybe that's just me...)
Did y'all end up going anywhere special for your b-day?

You are not boring! I love the way you make eating fun with the kids, you are so creative.

By the way, Happy Belated Birthday. Hope you had a great day!
Love ya, Angela

Happy Birthday. Why not celebrate for the whole month. That was pretty interesting---the pancake and egg thing. Hmmm.

OK, I had this nice post typed out last night, but apparently my computer and I were not on the same team! Anyway...not boring! That's the stuff memories are made from! I've never done faces on our pancakes...will definitely have to do that!

That is not boring! And by the way - that is by far our favorite show on TFN!
Loved the post - that you would share a piece of an "ordinary" day like that - that's what I need to get over - I keep thinking something monumental has to happen for me to post it! Thanks for doing a pancake dinner post - since Kurt and I are dieting - maybe I'll do a salad luncheon post, or a salad dinner post, or a salad breakfast post - have I mentioned I am getting a little tired of salad??!!
But I digress - all that to say - cute, cute, cute - and having fun with food - great!!

Well, I find the Farmer's to be VERY entertaining...and lately my blog links on my blog have not been updating to let me know-who posts what when. I was very disappointed when I realized I was behind on reading this. Is anybody else having that trouble? Anyway, I was super impressed with the face and I actually think I would like the egg in my pancake because I always eat eggs with my pancakes and kinda like the mixed up taste. Whew, have I written enough runon sentences for you? You go girl...keep up all that cooking.

I thought i saw a glimpse of Bryce running by early Saturday Morning. Whith all that sugar.... Bayley is in the process of divorcing us and filing for you to be her legal guardian. Sounds fun. I'm with you on not having a desire to try that combination.
